Let me be more specific. There is not a single school dedicated in The Bronx for children with autism like The Boy.
Children like The Boy need a school with:
- A combination of ABA and TEACCH methodologies;
- A sensory room, with an OT who is on site, not contracted;
- Sensory friendly classrooms;
- Speech pathologists;
- Behaviorists;
- Special Education teachers and assistants who have a true understanding of autism; and
- A nurturing environment that involves the whole family.
- Addresses behaviors (self stimulating behaviors)
- Facilitates socialization
- Teaches life skills as well as providing an education
- Builds self-esteem and confidence
Wouldn't it be amazing if The Bronx had a school like this?
Well...Let's create one!
WE need to "be the change that [we] wish to see in the world."
WE need to "be the change that [we] wish to see in the world."
